Project Summary
In this coffee table book we look at the history of one of the most fierce and brave musical genres through four decades of passion, aggression and strained necks. The book takes the reader through some of the most influential bands in the genre, as well as through some of the more prominent sub-genres.

Concept
The exciting thing about this project is that the subject lends itself to design extremities like very few others. Metal as a genre has always been unafraid of dismissing all kinds of conventions in favour of the extreme and the intense.
The idea was to arrange all the visuals in a way that it could be a vinyl sleeve for a metal live album. We added a layer of grit over all the visuals. Even our choice of typeface was a bit more adventurous than usual. Next we added a sense of unease through muted colours, undefined geometric shapes and a staggered text layout. All in all, a perfect companion for a cup of unsweetened black coffee.
